How Cheap Weight-Loss Pens Could Kill You – Pharmacist Jella Kang

Welcome to another episode of The Engaging Marketer podcast. Today, Darren is joined by Jella Kang, a medical practitioner with extensive experience in weight loss management, particularly through the use of injection pens.

In this episode, Jella shares his journey, discusses the nuances of weight loss treatments, the dangers of counterfeit products, and the importance of a holistic approach to health. Whether you’re interested in the medical field or just curious about the latest in weight loss, this episode is packed with valuable insights.

Darren: Jella, thanks for joining us today.

Jella: Thanks for having me, Darren. It’s a pleasure to be here.

Darren: So, Jella, what motivated you to get into the field of helping people with their weight and overall health?

Jella: Well, I’ve always been a people person. You’ve got to like people if you’re going to work in any health-related field. I remember doing medical sales and my boss once pointed out that I could talk to anyone—whether it was in a supermarket or at work, I just naturally engaged with people. That’s been my philosophy throughout my career: talk to everyone, and treat everyone with respect.

Darren: It’s interesting you mention that because being able to talk to anyone is a valuable skill in business, especially in networking. Have you found that this ability has helped you in other aspects of your work?

Jella: Absolutely. Networking is all about building relationships, and that’s something I’m naturally comfortable with. Even in a new environment, like a chamber meeting, I found that just being willing to talk to people, even if I felt nervous, was crucial. I think the key is to approach networking with a mindset of giving rather than hunting for opportunities. If you help others, it comes back to you.

Darren: That’s a great approach. It’s clear you have a natural knack for connecting with people, which must be invaluable in your line of work. You mentioned earlier about having a partner who handles the financial side of your business. Is that how you’ve structured things across all your ventures?

Jella: Yes, I’ve got a few businesses, including a pharmacy and a medical centre. My business partner tends to handle the financial side, while I focus on the technical and regulatory aspects. It’s a good balance, and it allows us to leverage each other’s strengths. For instance, I handle a lot of the marketing and customer-facing aspects, which keeps me involved in different facets of the business.

Darren: It sounds like you have a very diverse range of responsibilities. With so much on your plate, how do you manage your time effectively?

Jella: I try to be as structured as possible. I’m a big advocate of waking up early, around 5:00 AM, and I dedicate my mornings to my training company and reading clinical papers. Throughout the day, I focus on my priorities, which I list out each morning. It’s about finding that balance and making sure that I’m dedicating time to the most important tasks.

Darren: You also mentioned you’re involved in marketing, including email campaigns and Google Ads. How do you balance learning these skills with your medical practice?

Jella: It’s something I’ve always been interested in. I handle the marketing for my training company myself, and I find it keeps me sharp. It also means I can have informed conversations with our marketing team for the pharmacy and medical centre. Understanding these tools gives me a better grasp of what’s going on and allows me to ensure we’re getting the best results.

Darren: Speaking of your medical centre, you’ve also got a training company that focuses on weight loss products. Can you tell us more about that?

Jella: Yes, our training company mainly focuses on educating practitioners about weight loss medications, particularly the newer injectable options like semaglutide. We ensure our courses cover everything from diet and mental health to pharmacology and safe prescribing practices. The idea is to equip healthcare providers with the knowledge they need to help patients effectively and safely.

Darren: These weight loss injections are quite popular now. What exactly do they do?

Jella: In simple terms, these injections work by telling your brain that you’re full, so you eat less. They also slow down how quickly your stomach empties, which helps you feel fuller for longer. There’s ongoing research about their positive effects on heart health and possibly kidney function too. However, they’re not a miracle cure; they should be part of a broader health plan that includes diet, exercise, and mental readiness.

Darren: That’s a good point. There’s so much misinformation out there, especially online. What are the risks of using counterfeit or unregulated products?

Jella: The risks are enormous. People are buying injectable products from social media platforms like Facebook, often from unverified sources. Not only are these products potentially ineffective, but they can also be downright dangerous. I’ve heard horror stories where people ended up injecting substances like insulin, thinking they were getting weight loss medication, which could have been fatal. It’s really important to only use these products under proper medical supervision.

Darren: It’s shocking that people would risk their health like that. Why do you think people turn to these dangerous alternatives?

Jella: I think it’s a combination of desperation and the allure of a quick fix. People see these products as a shortcut, but they don’t realise the potential consequences. It’s critical to educate people about these risks and encourage them to seek proper medical advice rather than taking chances with unregulated products.

Darren: You’ve shared some really valuable information today, Jella. If someone wanted to get in touch with you, whether for a consultation or to learn more about your training programs, what’s the best way for them to reach you?

Jella: The best way to reach me is through our new medical centre, The Medical Hub. You can find us online at themedicalhub.co.uk, or you can call us at 0151 7221 944. We’re always here to help, whether it’s for weight loss, our new menopause clinic, or any of the other services we offer.

Darren: Thanks so much for joining us today, Jella. It’s been an eye-opening conversation, and I’m sure our listeners have learned a lot. I certainly have.

Jella: It was my pleasure, Darren. Thanks for having me.

Darren: And that wraps up this episode of The Engaging Marketer. Thank you to Jella Kang for sharing his insights with us today. If you found this episode valuable, don’t forget to subscribe and leave us a review. Until next time, take care.
