One of my all-time heroes isn’t a billionaire, a productivity guru, or even a real person. It’s Homer J. Simpson. Yes, really.
In Season 9, Episode 22 of The Simpsons, Homer runs for Springfield’s Waste Management Commissioner. His campaign slogan? “Can’t someone else do it?”
It was genius
Every time a filthy, boring, or stressful task came up, Homer’s answer was simple: let someone else handle it. From cleaning Moe’s Tavern to sorting out a disgusting cat litter tray, his campaign preyed on the fact that Springfield’s residents (like most people) didn’t want to do the dirty work themselves.
And while Homer inevitably blew the budget and wrecked everything by the end of the episode, his core message was spot on. It was outsourcing in its purest form.
Outsourcing Isn’t Laziness. It’s Strategy
If you’re a business owner or entrepreneur and you’re still clinging to every tiny task like it’s a badge of honour, you’re holding yourself back. You should be spending your time on the high-value, revenue-generating tasks only you can do. Everything else? Get rid of it.
Repetitive tasks? Get someone else to do them.
Low-value admin? Delegate.
Jobs that require a skill you don’t have? Pay for the expert.
“Can’t someone else do it?” Yes. They can. And they should.
But Here’s the Problem
Too many business owners are obsessed with saving a few quid. They think they’re the best person for every job. So they design their own logo. They build their own website. They write their own content. And it shows.
I’ve seen more amateur-looking logos than I care to count. The kind of stuff a primary school kid would proudly show their mum—and she’d tell them it’s brilliant, because of course she would.
Then there’s the DIY website brigade. They jump on Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress.com and throw something together because “it looks easy.” But creating a website that actually works—loads quickly, converts visitors, ranks in Google, and doesn’t scream ‘built this myself on a Saturday’—takes years of skill.
Next, they tackle the content. “I’ll just write it myself,” they say. Or worse, they copy and paste from competitors. Or they slap together a pile of ChatGPT-generated fluff without the slightest edit. That’s not SEO. That’s digital landfill.
You’re Not Saving Money. You’re Burning Time
Your time is not free. Every hour you spend trying to learn SEO, build a website, or write content is an hour you’re not spending growing your business.
You wouldn’t perform surgery on yourself after watching a YouTube video. You wouldn’t fit your own dental implants or design your own house. So why the hell are you trying to do your own marketing, web design, and branding?
If Someone’s Better, Faster, or Cheaper—Use Them
This isn’t about laziness. It’s about value. Use experts who do this every day, because they’ll do it right. Your competitors are already doing it. That’s why their websites look better, rank higher, and convert more. That’s why they win clients and you don’t.
Stop playing at business. You’re not a logo designer. You’re not a web developer. You’re not a copywriter or an SEO strategist. And if you are, then hire someone else to do the other stuff.
Homer Simpson Was Right
“Can’t someone else do it?” Yes. Someone else can. And if you want to grow, they absolutely should.
Now go and run your business properly. Let the pros handle the rest.
