Something New Is Coming To The Podcast

Darren Jamieson: On this week’s episode of The Engaging Marketeer, I want to tell you about something new we’re going to be doing over the next few weeks—something that’s coming very soon.

Now, I don’t know if you’re aware, because I’ve only mentioned it a few times before, but I’m also part of this networking group called BNI.

Don’t switch off—I know some people hear that and immediately roll their eyes. But bear with me.

What I’ve been doing at my BNI group for the last, oh… four or five years—definitely pre-COVID—is recording education slots. Little “education moments.”

They’re usually 3–5 minutes long, though sometimes I go a bit over—seven, eight, even nine minutes. But generally, they’re short talks on how to get more business through networking.

[00:00:48]

Darren Jamieson: I’ve been recording these for years. At first, I shared them on Facebook. A couple even made it to LinkedIn. But I had no strategy—no real plan.

Recently, I started uploading them to a YouTube channel I’ve called: BNI Education Slots

I even bought the domain: bnieducationslots.com

The more I recorded, the more professional they became. Originally, I’d just use a mobile phone. I’d ask someone to hold it while I gave the talk—or film someone else’s education slot.

But the audio? Terrible. As you can imagine—filming from the back of a big room with a phone mic.

[00:01:52]

Darren Jamieson: Now though?

I’m using a Canon professional camera—same one I’m using for this, if you’re watching on YouTube.

I’ve got a Sony camera too, for reverse shots and pick-ups.

I’m using professional wireless mics.

I edit everything with Adobe Premiere, throw in titles, transitions, even a cool jingle.

[00:02:25]

Darren Jamieson: So the BNI Education Slots channel is looking pretty slick now.

As of the end of March—when I’m recording this—it has:

  • Around 1,700 to 1,800 subscribers

  • About 135,000 views

Which isn’t bad at all!

[00:03:05]

Darren Jamieson: Then something amazing happened.

BNI sent out an email to all of their members worldwide—that’s about 300,000 people—and they included one of my videos right at the top of the email.

The video was about how to invite visitors to a BNI meeting—or any networking meeting. I recorded it outside of a meeting setting, and it’s basically a 9-minute breakdown of the exact process, designed to eliminate rejection fears.

[00:03:35]

Darren Jamieson: And then I started wondering…
Why are my YouTube subscribers suddenly rocketing up? Why are my views exploding?

It wasn’t until someone forwarded me the BNI email that I realised—
Oh. That’s why.
They emailed 300,000 people. With my video.

That was pretty cool.

[00:04:07]

Darren Jamieson: So I started thinking: How can I make more of this?

If you’re in BNI and looking for education slot ideas—go and Google:

BNI education slots

BNI education slot ideas

BNI education slot scripts

Try finding a video that isn’t mine. It’s not easy. I dominate the front page.
(Which is what we do at Engage Web—so that makes sense.)

[00:04:38]

Darren Jamieson: I get messages all the time from Australia, New Zealand, Europe, The U.S, even California.

BNI members tell me they’ve watched my videos, played them in their chapters, and found them helpful for growing their business through BNI.

And I love that. Big ego boost. And who doesn’t love an ego boost?

[00:05:08]

Darren Jamieson: But even more importantly—I’ve had people become clients after watching these.

They’ve seen what I do, they like the videos, they know I know my stuff—and they want to work with Engage Web.

It builds that know, like, trust factor, which is the heart of BNI.

And I’m achieving all of that without ever meeting them. Just through video.

[00:06:10]

Darren Jamieson: So I thought… how can I get even more out of this content?

Why not turn all of these into a podcast?

The content already exists—I just need to export the audio. But then I thought…

Starting a brand-new podcast is a pain. I already have one: The Engaging Marketeer.

So here’s the plan.

I’m going to start releasing these BNI education slots as bonus episodes on The Engaging Marketeer.

There are about 70 of them. I won’t use all of them. But I’ll start putting them out weekly, over the next year or more.

They will not replace my solo rants or my full interviews (which are already booked up to June!) they’ll just be bonus episodes.

[00:07:43]

Darren Jamieson: The regular Engaging Marketeer drops every Friday.

These bonus BNI episodes will probably come out on a Tuesday (Definitely not Monday—everyone hates Mondays, including me.)

You’ll start seeing them roll out in the next few weeks or months. Each one will have separate branding, a different jingle but still feature me—or other BNI members and will be short: 3 to 5 minutes.

[00:08:18]

Darren Jamieson: And even though they’re BNI-themed, they’re useful for anyone in business.

They cover:

  • How to get business via networking

  • How to grow referrals

  • How to pitch your services

  • How to build trust quickly

  • How to stand out in 60-second intros

Whether you’re in BNI or not, this stuff is marketing gold.

[00:08:49]

Darren Jamieson: So—watch out for these. They’ll start launching probably by the end of April and I reckon Tuesdays are the best day for it.

They’ll be quick, punchy, and packed with value.

So make sure you’re subscribed—and I’ll catch you on the next episode.
